Crypto payment gateway

A crypto payment gateway sits between a merchant and the blockchain, the way a card gateway sits between a merchant and the card networks. It generates payment addresses or invoices, watches the chain for confirmations, protects the merchant from price swings during the payment window, and settles the proceeds — in crypto or converted to fiat.

How it works

  1. The merchant creates an invoice; the gateway quotes an amount in the customer’s chosen coin, locked for a short window.
  2. The customer pays to a unique address (or via a wallet deep-link / QR code).
  3. The gateway tracks confirmations and marks the payment complete once finality is reached for that chain.
  4. Settlement runs on the merchant’s schedule: keep the crypto, or auto-convert and receive fiat or stablecoins.

Why merchants use one

Accepting crypto directly means running wallets, monitoring multiple chains, handling under- and over-payments, and carrying volatility risk between payment and settlement. A gateway absorbs all of that behind one API and one dashboard, and adds the operational pieces — refunds, reporting, webhooks — that finance teams expect from card processing.
